Kenyan athlete Geoffrey Kamworor on Sunday beat the world record in the half marathon by winning on the course of Copenhagen in 58 minutes and 1 second.

Kamworor dethroned his compatriot Abraham Kiptum, who had run the half marathon in Valencia (Spain) in 58 minutes and 18 seconds in October 2018.

The 26-year-old Kenyan traveled the first five kilometers with the leading group in 13:51, just below the pace of world recceord, but he increased the pace to pass the 10th kilometer in 27:32, six seconds in below his lens.

Kamworor completed the last eleven kilometers solo but that did not seem to disturb him, nor even the heavy rain that hit his course.

His first pursuer, Kenyan Bernard Kipkorir Ngeno, took second place in 59 min 16 sec. Ethiopian Berhanu Tsegu was third in 59: 22.
