The Brussels public prosecutor's office opened an investigation following allegations of corruption and money laundering against Didier Reynders. The current Belgian Foreign Minister is the candidate for the post of European Commissioner for Justice.

In April, a former Belgian intelligence agent told the judicial police how bribes were paid in a series of public contracts including the construction of the Belgian embassy in Kinshasa.
