November 19, 2018The Houthi Shiite militiamen announced that they had accepted the UN appeal and that they had stopped missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and their allies in Yemen. The position of the Houthis follows the decision of the Arab military coalition led by Riad to interrupt the offensive against the port city of Hodeidah.

"After contacts with the UN envoy and his request to stop the attacks, we announce our initiative to stop the attacks with missiles and drones," said Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, head of the Houthi Supreme Revolutionary Commission in a statement.

UN special envoy Martin Griffiths is trying to save the peace talks after the failure of the September round, when the Houthis did not appear at the negotiating table. Griffiths hopes to be able to convene more talks in Sweden before the end of the year, so as to form a transitional government that will bring the country to peace.

The Houthis said they were ready for a ceasefire '' if the Saudi-led coalition wants peace. We want to support the UN envoy, demonstrate trust and support peace efforts ". Saudi Arabia and the Emirates have also said they support the UN-mediated peace talks.
