Kravchuk: Ukrainians in 1991 advocated an alliance with Russia
The first Ukrainian president, Leonid Kravchuk, said that in 1991, during a vote in a referendum on the confirmation of the "Declaration of Independence of Ukraine," the people supported an alliance with Russia.
“I once asked why you voted so actively, and they said:“ We thought it would be independent Ukraine, but with Russia, ”he said in an interview with Bihus.info.
According to the ex-president, Ukrainians perceived the Act as giving the country great social and economic rights.
“That is, they did not see independence as a separate state, you need to know this. And what we thought and decided in the Bialowieza Forest - we talked about the state. Yes, a union of states, but about the state, ”Kravchuk added.
Earlier, Kravchuk called the main mistake of the leaders of Ukraine. In his opinion, it consisted in the fact that the heads of state did not take into account the interests of all regions.
