Since 2015, Russian military doctors conducted more than 37 thousand operations in Syria. This was announced by Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu

“We need to remember our wonderful doctors who have performed more than 37 thousand operations during this time in Syria alone, this is selfless work,” he said at the “Army of Russia 2019” festival

Shoigu also said that the work of doctors in Syria is associated with great risk, and among them there are also losses.

“Unfortunately, he (labor. - RT ) did not become peaceful and safe, and our wonderful girls from the Eastern Military District died there. The girls who went there to help, ”said Shoigu.

In the course of his speech, Shoigu also noted the general influence of the Russian armed forces on the process of settlement and normalization of the situation in the country.

“When we started work in Syria, territories not occupied by terrorists accounted for 18% of the entire country. Today, when we observe that dozens of new enterprises open every day, hospitals and schools work, when thousands of Syrian children go to these schools, we no longer recall that these same schools cleared our sappers, ”he stressed.

The head of the Russian defense department also turned to European partners, drawing attention to the fact that the Syrians are no longer trying to penetrate their countries, but are returning to their homes.

“Today we see how every day more than a thousand people return to their homes only from abroad. I would like to remind our colleagues, including European ones: when 600-700 people came to them every day, it was a huge tragedy for them, although, first of all, it was a tragedy for those people who fled from their homes, countries, to find at least some refuge, ”said Shoigu.

The Minister emphasized that this was made possible thanks to Russian officers, soldiers, pilots and sailors.

In total, according to the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria (CPVS), since the beginning of the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2015, over 627 thousand people have returned from abroad to the Arab Republic. Another 1.3 million Syrians who were forced to leave their homes but remained in the country were able to return to their homes again.

CPAC also said that active restoration of Syria's infrastructure and housing sector is ongoing. During the presence of Russia in the republic, over 32 thousand residential buildings, as well as about 900 educational and about 200 medical institutions, were restored.

They return to the control of Damascus and settlements. In total, according to the Ministry of Defense presented earlier, about 2.6 thousand settlements joined the reconciliation process.

Infrastructure recovery

The economy of the Arab Republic is also recovering. So, near Aleppo, a large plant for the production of fittings was returned to operation - it has not produced products since December 2016.

“We recovered in a very short time, but because of Western sanctions we could not buy raw materials abroad and the company stood idle for almost nine months. Thanks to Russia, your country began to supply raw materials to Syria, so that we were finally able to get to work, ”Fatih Katarzhi, director of the plant's owner, quotes TASS.

The only car factory in Syria has begun work. Siamco, established jointly with Iran, has launched the production of minibuses and plans to expand production.

“We have experience in assembling Iranian-made cars, after which we successfully assembled many Peugeot cars, and now we have started working with Chinese-made minibuses. Up to 40 cars leave the assembly line daily; 150 people work at the plant around the clock. Perhaps in the coming months we will hire about a hundred more specialists in car assembly, ”TASS quotes the words of the company’s director general, Mohammed Ziyad Nami.

The head of the enterprise noted that demand for cars is growing in Syria, as the country's economy began to recover.

In August, the World Bank presented a report on the Syrian economy. The organization’s experts analyzed what economic growth could have been in the country if there had been no armed conflict, and presented three development scenarios after settlement: optimistic, pessimistic, and average.

Even the worst-case scenario assumes that the country's economy will grow over the next two decades at an average of 5.1% annually, thereby doubling the global average. It is optimistic and allows an average growth rate of 10.9%, and the peak value in 2022, according to experts, may even reach 20.9%. The scenario according to which the Syrian economy will develop depends on the participation of foreign states in the reconstruction of the country and the actions of Damascus.

The fact that the war in Syria is over was announced on September 13 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The war in Syria has really ended,” he emphasized. “The country is gradually returning to a normal, peaceful life.”

However, the Minister also noted that in the area of the de-escalation zone in Idlib and on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, there are still hotbeds of tension. Lavrov called for a political dialogue for a final settlement of the conflict.

Political settlement

It is worth noting that Idlib is the last major focus of terrorists in Syria. Moscow and Damascus have repeatedly noted that militants take refuge in the de-escalation zone, who use the civilian population of the region as a “human shield” and continue their attacks and attacks from there.

There is a ceasefire in the Idlib area, but militants continue their shelling. To resolve the situation in the region, negotiations are underway at the level of the guarantor countries of the Astana process in Syria - Russia, Turkey and Iran.

The process of forming the Constitutional Committee of the Arab Republic is also continuing, a body that includes both representatives of Damascus and the opposition and civil society, which will have to develop a new fundamental law of the country. It is assumed that the committee will be created by September 20, the head of the Syrian Negotiating Committee (UPC) Nasr al-Hariri said in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat.

“The vast majority of disputed points on the creation of the Constitutional Committee have already been agreed upon, we are making every effort and hope that it will be finalized by September 20, that is, before the UN General Assembly begins work in New York,” TASS quoted him as saying.
