2018 - Two actors of the ZDF / Arte series "Bad Banks" receive the German Acting Award, Paula Beer and her colleague Barry Atsma. The Austrian Peter Simonischek ("Toni Erdmann") is honored for his life's work.

2009 - The Japanese Yukiya Amano is elected as the new head of the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA. On the 1st of December he takes the lead. He exercises the office until his death in July 2019.

1999 - The 54th United Nations General Assembly begins in New York. With the inclusion of the three Pacific island states of Tonga, Kiribati and Nauru, the United Nations has 188 members at the time.
