Climate activists rallied on Friday (September 13th) in Washington in the presence of young environmental activist Greta Thunberg. In the United States since the end of August, the Swedish teenager continues ceremonies and demonstrations to try to sensitize the Americans to the climatic issues.

With our correspondent in Washington, Anne Corpet

" Protect our future, " shouted a few hundred young people in front of the White House . As lost in the crowd, Greta Thunberg barely stammers the slogan.

The reserve displayed by the girl contrasts with the enthusiasm she arouses in young people like Cathy and Pearl, 15 and 16 years old. " She is a symbol of what youth activism should be, she shows us that high school students of our age have a voice , says Cathy. I love Greta because I think she is an extraordinary activist who inspired a global movement. I am really proud to demonstrate with her. "

" More coal, more oil, leave the carbon in the ground ! " launch the protesters. A message directly to Donald Trump , explains Pearl : " He must stop denying climate change, he must stop promoting natural gas, oil and mines. "

" So much pressure on a teenager "

Greta Thunberg shyly refuses to speak in front of dozens of microphones and cameras aimed at her.

Kalaan Benson, coordinator of the event, is sad. " I'm glad she's here at our market, but it's hard to be celebrity and put so much pressure on a teenager. "

However, Greta Thunberg did not finish with the crowd. She will be holding events and ceremonies during her stay in the United States.
