by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 22 September 2018The complaint was made by a wheelchair-bound 21-year-old girl on Fb: no house for the disabled.

Sabrina Vittoni, this is the name of the young woman from Villadossola (Vco), who said 'the bad experience'. After addressing a real estate agency in Omegna, on Lake Orta, and having paid the deposit, the apartment was refused by the owners because of their disability.

The girl was looking for a place to live in Omegna, where she recently found a permanent job. In the agency he had agreed to the house of his liking and had paid the confirmatory down payment but the next day the owners refused the proposal. "They said - Sabrina explains - that they do not want to rent to disabled people. They did not want to talk on the phone or meet me. They decided not to want to sign the contract - the young woman says - despite having been informed of my disability from the beginning. Perhaps they feared that because of the disability I would have to make changes to the apartment. To me the house was fine like that and I was willing to put it in the contract.

The mayor of Omegna, Paolo Marchioni, announced that he will contact the real estate agency to see if the apartment owners can change their minds. "I am willing - he said - to personally help Sabrina because what happened is unacceptable. I wanted to meet Sabrina to express to her the sincere closeness of the whole city after the unpleasant event that saw her as protagonist and victim" according to what the site reports Ossolanews.

The Piedmont Region is also ready to help Sabrina Vittoni. "We learn of this new discriminatory case in Omegna - says the councilor for equal opportunities in the Piedmont region, Monica Cerutti - We hope that the agency and owners can review their position, but above all we remind Signora Vittoni that the Piedmont Region has a law against all discrimination and therefore we are ready to support it, if deemed necessary ". "Above all - he concludes - we thank you for making your case public: we should never witness any kind of discrimination with resignation".

The replica of the real estate agency
The agency's mediator explained that: "The disability has nothing to do with it. However, that apartment would require jobs that are too expensive to adapt to a disabled person. However, there will be a meeting between owners and the girl on Monday."
