In a motion, the Social Democrats want the municipal government to be commissioned to "promptly initiate a dialogue between Halmstad municipality and Kattfoten". With this, the party wants to ensure that the cat home can continue its work in Halmstad for a long time to come.

- Over the years, they have had a very difficult time getting the business together with staff and the support has commuted, says Lars El Hayek (S).

Why is it important to save the cat home?

- It's about protecting the animals and in this case abandoned cats. We think this is very important, says Lars El Hayek (S).

But in times of savings, do you see it as a priority to save a cat home then?

- That question can be interpreted as a matter of contribution, but it need not be. We have put forward this exercise because we have identified a problem and want a dialogue between the municipality and the cat home. Then we see what solutions it can result in, says Lars El Hayek (S).

"Fulfills a very important function"

But if it is not financial in what way can you help?

- It's a little too early to say. It doesn't have to be financial aid, though it can be. But it's about initiating a dialogue that doesn't exist today, says Lars El Hayek (S).

The goal of the exercise is to find a long-term solution for the cat home. But he does not think there can be talk of running a cat home under municipal auspices.

- It does not belong to the municipal competence and I also think it should be run by private individuals, but that they should have a solid foundation. You fulfill a very important function in this municipality. Not least from an animal rights perspective, says Lars El Hayek (S).
