LONDON (Reuters) - Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will be buried in a monument at the Heroes' Tomb in the capital Harare in about 30 days after he said he would be buried on Sunday, family spokesman Leo Mugabe said.

"The government and senior officials went to the monument of heroes and inspected the place where President Mugabe's body will be buried and this place will take about 30 days to complete," said Leo Mugabe. He said Mugabe's body would be preserved until burial.

The body arrived in Zimbabwe from Singapore on Wednesday and has been in a three-day official residence since Thursday, allowing citizens to take a final look at it.

Before that, Mugabe's burial site sparked great tension between his family and the authorities, before settling earlier on Friday. The family had said he would be buried in his village as part of his relatives and traditional leaders wanted.

Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo told Reuters the uncertainty over Mugabe's burial place was because the government could only reach an agreement with close family members after they returned with the body.

Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years until the military overthrew him in November 2017, died in a hospital in Singapore about a week ago at the age of 95.
