Marib Governor Sultan al-Aradah praised the humanitarian efforts of the Saudi Mine Clearance Project in Yemen (MASAM) in clearing mines planted by Iranian-backed Houthi militias, accusing the coup militias of planting mines everywhere, indifferent to the scale of the catastrophe targeting Yemen and its future for decades. The governor of Marib, Sultan Al Aradah, while meeting with the Director General of the Saudi Mine Clearance Project, Osama Al Gosaibi, who is currently visiting the city of Marib, expressed his thanks to the leadership of the project «Masam» and its cadres, who risk themselves for the lives of others. Al-Arada pointed out that the Houthi militia's indiscriminate laying of mines on roads, farms, grazing areas, homes, schools and public places reveals the militia's hostility towards all Yemenis, regardless of whether they are children or women, young or old, military or civilian.

He stressed that statistics and reports on mine victims and the news received daily in this aspect, reveal the extent of the inherent danger of planting mines, and stresses the urgent need to unite all efforts towards the elimination of this destructive project supported by Iran.

The Saudi project to clear mines in Yemen (Masam) announced last Sunday, the extraction of 2,956 mines during the first week of September 2019, was planted by Houthi coup militias in a number of provinces and liberated Yemen.

He pointed out that the total of what has been cleared since the launch of the project in June 2018 until the sixth of September this year amounted to 87 thousand and 781 varied between mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices.

The Yemeni government says engineering teams and regional and international programs have extracted nearly 500,000 mines and improvised explosive devices since the war began.

According to official statements, more than one million mines and an explosive device are still planted and have not been cleared.

According to a human rights report, the Houthi coup militia, and since its coup against the legitimate authority in September 2014, has adopted a systematic strategy in the use of mines and explosives of all kinds.

He stressed that the cultivation of mines, which are unique to Houthi militias in Yemen, made it «one of the largest minefields on earth».
