After living for a few months in student apartments in Brickebacken, 28 unaccompanied young people are now relocating to other homes, Hem & Hyra writes. The reason is that the student apartments should be demolished.

Shelter

Instead, the City Mission has made an agreement with ÖBO to let the young people live in renovation apartments that are empty for a few months while waiting for renovation.

"Having a three-month roof over your head is a long time when the alternative is to be homeless and live on the street," says Lena Mattsson, who is the business manager at her own accommodation, EBO, at Örebro City Mission.

Must follow the rules

These are apartments in Vivalla, Varberga and Norrby and the contracts are between three to six months. The residents pay 1100 in rent for their room.

In addition to adhering to ÖBO's rules, the unaccompanied must also comply with the City Commission's rules.

- They have to go to high school and complete their studies, they have to clean, they must not bring home friends, they have to look for other housing in the meantime and they have to be generally caring. We make home visits with them to see that our rules are adhered to, meaning that they will learn to cope with their own housing as they grow older, says Lena Mattsson.
