Since his inauguration last Sunday, the new Sudanese government has made gestures towards the armed movements and multiplies the declarations destined for the regions destroyed by the war. It sends strong signals that it wants to bring about a just and comprehensive final peace.

Sudan's prime minister , Abdallah Hamdok, sent a special envoy to Juba, South Sudan, to hold talks with leaders of the non-signatory armed movements of the political accord. An envoy who was preceded in Juba earlier this week by five members of the Sovereign Council who held meetings with leaders of the Sudanese armed movements.

On Wednesday, the security adviser to the South Sudanese president announced that an agreement in principle had been reached between Khartoum and the three armed movements recently regrouped in the revolutionary front. The agreement provides for a global ceasefire, the release of prisoners and war prisoners, the opening of humanitarian passages and assistance to war-affected people.

A commission for peace will be formed soon. It will conduct the peace talks that will be hosted in Juba with the support of IGAD, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development.
