12 September 2019The Police, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Rome, shed light on the causes that led to the serious accident that caused the injuring of many people at the Repubblica metro stop on October 23, 2018, as well as on the causes that led to the stairway failure of the Barberini stop on 21 March 2019. The agents are carrying out an order for the application of a precautionary prohibitory measure against 4 employees of Metro Roma and ATAC. The charges are of fraud in public supplies and negligent personal injury.

The investigation by policemen from the Flying Squad and colleagues from the Viminale police station, coordinated by the Rome prosecutor's office, left after the accident at the Repubblica metro station on October 23, 2018. That day 24 CSKA Moscow fans arrived in the capital to the Champions League match against the Giallorossi, were injured due to the sudden collapse of the escalators. But it is not the only fault. On 21 March 2019, in fact, they sold the escalators of the Barberini metro station. So much fear, but fortunately no one injured.

The Repubblica station on Line A of the Rome underground remained closed for 246 days following the collapse of the escalators. From 23 October, the stop was reopened at dawn on 26 June, with the relief of the many commuters and residents who for over eight months had to do without one of the main junctions in the city center. The closure of Spagna and Barberini followed at the Repubblica stop. The first remained closed for a month and a half and reopened last May, while the second is still closed, after being released. Today the escalators are out of service in numerous stops throughout the entire Rome underground: eight on line A, six on line B and one on line C.
