Berlin (AFP) In Germany, according to the health insurance company Barmer, the use of hundreds of thousands of blood products in transfusions would be avoidable. In 2017 alone, more than 3.2 million blood products were used, more than ever anywhere in the world, according to the hospital's health insurance fund report presented on Thursday in Berlin. Against this background, the Barmer pleaded for more endogenous blood reserves and thus for the so-called patient blood management (PBM).
