It's a " sign of good will, " tweeted Donald Trump at the request of China's deputy prime minister and chief negotiator, Liu He. This for a special occasion: the 70th anniversary celebrations of the People's Republic.

Postponement of two weeks

This new increase of 25% to 30% of US tariffs involved $ 250 billion of Chinese imports and will be postponed for two weeks between October 1st and 15th. For its part, China announced earlier the cancellation of additional tariffs on sixteen categories of US products.

Behind these signs of relaxation in the fierce trade war waged by the first two economies of the planet for 18 months, the threats still hover. Discussions between Washington and Beijing are due to resume in early October for the first time since May at a ministerial level.

Surcharge all Chinese imports if not agreed

If no agreement is found by the end of the year, Donald Trump still intends to overtax almost all Chinese imports in the United States.

On the 1st of June, we have agreed, we are going to have an increase in the price of 250 Billion Dollars worth of goods (25% to 30%), from October 1st to October 15th.
