A little more than a week after its passage, 2,500 people are still not located. There are at least 50 dead. The rescue is very difficult to intervene on the spot as the damage is important. On the island of Abaco, particularly affected by the hurricane, the local authorities will be able to count on 250 French, German and Dutch soldiers coming to help.

This reinforcement is welcome to Abaco. Here, 90% of the infrastructure was ravaged or damaged by Hurricane Dorian . Nothing remains of this city which was one of the lungs of the Bahamian economy. Imagine the amount of rubble to clear with the utmost care. For example, in what were the neighborhoods of " The Mudd " and " Pigean Pea ", two slums where mostly illegal Haitians resided, and where many bodies are still undoubtedly under the rubble.

The 250 men of the Dutch, German and French armies who were in European joint exercises in the Caribbean are therefore going to work for at least a week.

Resurrect Marsh Harbor

It takes hands here. But also brains, engineers, because it is the entire system of running water and electricity that is to be redone in Abaco. The island also needs vehicles and heavy equipment that these armies bring finally more than ten days after the passage of the hurricane.

The Bahamian army announced Thursday morning its desire to resurrect this city of Marsh Harbor. The authorities are now hoping for arms for reconstruction, which will undoubtedly be very long. But first of all, there are still 2,000 to 3,000 people on the island in an extremely vulnerable situation .
