23 hired arrests can solve Malmö's lack of detention

The police arrest has a corridor of 23 cells, rooms that could help the Prison and Probation Service solve their lack of space in detention centers in Malmö.

According to police chief Per-Olof Söyseth, both the police and the prison services are positive about the proposal.

- Both parties are very positive about this. We have written a mandate directive together and we will start reviewing it on September 24th. There are a number of privacy and business protection issues that we must first address, says Police Chief Per-Olof Söyseth, to SVT News Skåne.

But is there not a risk that there will be a shortage of places of arrest with you then?

- No, not as we see it. When building the Law Center in Malmö, it was taken into account that the need for places would increase in the future. According to the statistics we have brought, it is currently working for us to rent out cells in the near future. During the time we rent out, the Prison and Probation Service could build new detention facilities, says Per-Olof Söyseth, at the Malmö Police.
