29 December 2015

December 29 marks a tragic anniversary for the world of sport, especially Formula 1. It is the day when Michael Schumacher (he was 2013) lived the last day as a normal man. And it was not, as unfortunately can happen to pilots, a racing track, a fault, a hazard, a wrong maneuver to betray him. It was a snowy track, there on the Alps of Haute-Savoie. A trip on the snow of Meribel with his son Mick jr and some friends marked the last happy Christmas of the seven-time world champion, the man who brought the prancing horse back to Olympus. A fatality, as an inquiry by the Albertville Public Prosecutor's Office has ascertained, caused the darkness to fall on the life of one of the gods of Formula 1. That Sunday, Schumacher makes an off-piste run at normal speed, but is surprised by a rock concealed by the white mantle . He hits her, then falls on another boulder. He has the helmet, but the GoPro camera is fatal to him: it penetrates the helmet and damages the brain.

Two years between speculation and half-truths
Among more or less optimistic news, between half-truths, lies and speculation we know that recovery is exhausting in its slowness and uncertainty. There was even someone who tried to sell Schumi's medical records to the highest bidder. He tried to sell it for 50 thousand euros, but no news organization agreed to publish it. And that man, locked up in Zurich, committed suicide.

Only his wife Corinna, the two sons, Mick and Gina Maria, and very few others know the real conditions of the pilot and his progress in the room equipped with advanced machinery. The press reports followed, punctually, by replies from spokeswoman Sabine Kehm, now also the manager of young Mick, who was on the run despite a media pressure that scared even Nico Rosberg, another son of art. And it is just a few days ago the last inference on Schumi's conditions. "Bunte", a German gossip magazine, revealed that "Michael is very thin (45-48 kg, ed), but he is able to walk again with the help of his therapist. He can take a couple of steps and can even raise his arm. " The harsh denial of Kehm to the "Bild" came immediately: "Unfortunately these news force us to underline how the assertion that Michael can walk again is without foundation. Certain declarations are irresponsible because they feed false hopes among those who follow him with sincere trepidation ". And then the heartbreaking silence on another affirmation by Bunte: "The incident compromised the brain of the champion, forcing him to receive assistance for life". Moreover, the neurosurgeons of the Grenoble hospital who saved his life in 2013 were clear: lesions and edema too extensive, the two surgical operations had been fundamental but not resolutive, the pharmacological coma necessary, the awakening after six months the only hope not to reduce it to a vegetative state, the neurorehabilitation of a few months in Lausanne preparatory for the return home. They had understood what Schumi's future would be, but they could not admit it publicly.

How is Michael Schumacher really?
Another very sad Christmas has just passed for the Schumacher family. The Gazzetta dello Sport wrote it after rumors about Michael's alleged progress, citing information obtained from various sources. Information to be taken with certain springs, given that between allegations and denials very little transpires from official sources. "Michael breathes alone, but doesn't feed. He opens his eyes, but does not communicate even if at times he leaves, to those who observe him, the perception that in reality he understands the identity of those facing him ”.
Schumacher is unable to speak, even though he weighs more than 45-48 kg given to him by someone.

The former manager says: "They prevent me from seeing him"
Willi Weber, the manager with whom Schumacher celebrated many successes over the years, accuses the family of keeping him away. The outburst, taken up by Bild, is in a long post published on his private Facebook profile. "Corinna (Schumi's wife, ed) prevents me from having any contact with Michael. I've tried dozens of times to ask permission to visit him, each time without success. "
Schumacher and Weber worked together from 1988 to 2010. They not only celebrated the seven world titles of the German champion. They were also great friends. According to reports from Bild, Weber failed to see Schumacher even during the rehabilitation phase in Switzerland. The former manager reaffirms the ban on the part of his wife Corinna, but does not clarify the causes of these continuous refusals.
