It was September 1st that the new tax values began to apply to motor homes that are now registered. The tax increase applies to motorhomes covered by EU legislation for exhaust emissions for light vehicles.

And the tax is being raised because a stricter measurement method, WLTP, now applies to fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

"It is an injustice to motor home owners and future owners," says Alf Ekström, CEO of Kabe in Tenhult, who was forced to notify 25 employees of the new production as a result of the increased tax.

Significantly reduced sales

At the fair Elmia caravan camper, the tax increase is high on the agenda. Sales of new motorhomes have stopped substantially this year and under the name Husbilskampen forces the industry to try to influence decision-makers.

- We must have a tax system that affects the environment in the right direction. The tax for new fresh engines with less emissions should probably not be higher than older engines, says Maria Valentin, spokeswoman for the Motor Vehicle Camp.

And the turmoil in the industry is great after new car sales have now slowed sharply. Sales are expected to decline by a further 37 percent in 2020.

- We have notified 25 now and we will see. We do not know what this will have, ”says Alf Ekström.
