According to Region Västerbotten, 200 scheduled surgeries this year have been canceled late this year, because patients did not want to be operated on, did not show up or no longer needed the surgery.

Because of this, you should now contact the patients who have been in line for a long time for surgery.

- We do this to ensure that we have correct waiting lists and that those in line are in need of care. We want to free up resources for those who need them, says Ulrica Bergström, Area Manager Länss Healthcare Area 2 at Region Västerbotten.

Will also operate in the evening

The idea is that by calling the patients who are in line, late cancellations should be avoided and the long queue times reduced to specialist care.

- Several units in the region therefore call the patient the week before planned surgery to ensure the need. Late cancellations for surgery or visits cost large taxes, Region Västerbotten writes in a press release.

In addition to this, the region will also implement targeted measures to increase accessibility, including conducting visits and operations during evenings and weekends, and introducing extra receptions.
