It is Ekot who reports that over a thousand cases of measles have been found in New Zealand.

- So far we have 944 cases of measles in Auckland and that's twenty-five more since last Saturday, says the responsible infection control physician in the city of William Rainger to the radio program.

According to Ekot, more than 650 of those who become ill come from the same part of southern Auckland. Above all, children under five have become ill. According to William Rainger, the reason why this neighborhood hit so hard is because of poor housing conditions and an unusual number of people moving in and out, which makes it difficult for the authorities to know who has been vaccinated.

The outbreak has resulted in New Zealand's health authorities sending out over 50,000 doses of vaccine to stop the spread of the disease. In total, more than 1,100 cases of measles have been found in recent weeks and, according to the authorities, the worst has not yet been seen.

The new outbreak of measles is the third country affected since 2011.
