MTH education, a free school for students in grades 4-9, started two years ago focusing on technology, motivation and health. Since last spring, the number of pupils has decreased greatly.

Need to take your own responsibility

SVT has talked to several parents with children who have opted to quit MTH education and gone back to the municipal school or other free school. No one dares to stand in front of the camera, but everyone talks about a school where, as a student, you have to manage to take a lot of your own responsibility and that support from adults has been very limited.

But there are also parents who testify that MTH education has worked well for their children. Children who have their own drive and are able to take on their own responsibility. But who still chose to move when the friends left.

The school inspection on follow-up visits

The school is being investigated by the School Inspectorate, who previously found a number of serious deficiencies. Last week, they were on site in Hudiksvall to follow up on the measures required.

- The investigation is ongoing and during the investigation period we do not comment on how it went. We will now summarize what we have done and send a protocol to the principal who they can also look at and after that we will write a decision, says Elisabeth Wikén at the School Inspectorate.

Awaiting the School Inspectorate's review

The municipality of Hudiksvall, which pays school money for the residents who have chosen to attend MTH education, has no views on the criticism.

- We are waiting for the School Inspectorate. There is nothing we can go into and do because we in Sweden have the opportunity to choose which school we want our children to go to. Those who have chosen to come back to us we have received, which I believe, in a satisfactory way, says the administration manager Ingela Rauhala.

SVT Gävleborg has applied for school principal Johanna Örnehag via e-mail, telephone and on-site visits, but she has stayed away and does not want to answer any questions.
