In Iran, a girl sentenced to six months in prison killed herself. His fault: having attended a football match. Following her indictment, the young woman set herself on fire in a Tehran court in early September. Burned at 90%, she finally succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

His suicide sounds like an ultimate form of protest. The young Iranian, Sahar, 29, has taken the death to denounce the inequalities between men and women in the Islamic Republic.

Sports enthusiast

It all starts last March. Passionate about sports, in love with the ball, the young woman tries to break into a stadium in Tehran, the Iranian capital. His dream: to witness for the first time a football match.

But in the country of the mullahs, the law is clear : Iranian women do not have the right to go to public sports events. She is arrested and sent to prison. According to his relatives, the girl suffered from bipolar disorder and was followed by a doctor.

Third degree burned

Her stay behind bars would have deeply terrified her. Released on bail, she feared further incarceration.

She finally chose to immolate herself by the fire. Burned to the third degree on almost the entire body. Sahar finally died Monday in Tehran.
