Eleven new Russian athletes have been granted neutral athlete status to compete in international competitions, the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) said Tuesday just over two weeks before the Doha World Championships in Qatar.

They are 128 able to compete abroad in 2019, while 58 applications were rejected and a neutral status revoked, says the IAAF.

Russian athletics has been suspended since November 2015 and the discovery of a vast system of institutional doping. But athletes considered irreproachable by an anti-doping panel are allowed to compete: 19 were present at the London Worlds in 2017 and 29 at the Berlin Euro in August 2018.

The IAAF is due to take a decision at its Council on 23 September in Doha on the reinstatement or not of the Russian Federation, while data from the Moscow laboratory, at the heart of the doping system between 2011 and 2015, are still in progress. analysis by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
