A café just inside Söderport in downtown Visby has become a watering hole for cruise tourists who have made their way up from the harbor.

"Many people are sick of figs when they come here, they want cinnamon buns," says cafe owner Linda Lantz who, together with colleague Ana Richardsdotter, stands in the kitchen and prepares sandwiches and salads.

More calls were booked

It is now the second season that the new cruise wharf is in operation and it has produced results. This year, 106 calls are planned, and next year 135 calls have been booked. This means that the estimated number of visitors is increasing.

This year's season means approximately 115,000 cruise visitors. Next year there will be significantly more. It could reach a maximum of 180,000 people by 2020.

- We see an incredibly large increase. But what I find most gratifying is the mix of people who come. It's all ages and families with children, something we haven't really seen before. It is clear that the multitude of people are contributing quite a lot, says Magnus Olsson, who is the operations manager for the Visby Centrum business organization.

"We are not Venice"

Several cruise ships can now be docked at the same time. The question is, can there be too many tourists?

- No, it's pretty far until we're in that position, says Magnus Olsson and continues:

- We are not Venice. If there are 6,000 people at the same time, Visby and Gotland swallow it quite easily.
