Alex Schulman was met by strong and harsh reactions when he posted a picture of the fiery Notre-Dame with the caption "Finally" on social media. In My Truth, he talks about how he thought when he did the publication - and about the strong reactions he encountered:
- It started with right-wing thinkers and right-wing politicians picking this up from my Instagram. They do not mention that it was a joke but they just write "This is how the left liberal columnist Alex Schulman writes". In their context, it is totally hair-raising, he says.

- Then the right-wing forces gather and I get all that directed at me. I've never been to anything like that in my entire life, he says in My Truth.
Alex Schulman says his joke arose in response to how other celebrities commented on the fire.
- I saw in the streams how celebrities mourned Notre Dame as if they had been born and raised in the cathedral. And I was very confused about it, he says in My Truth.
