It was in the middle of last week that a man heard from Erika Axelsson and told about the discovery.

- It did not bleed profusely from the wounds, but when the man scraped away the blood began to bleed immediately again.

The fisheries consultant immediately heard from SVA (the National Veterinary Institute of Sweden) with the hope of finding out how the wounds arose.

- They had a hard time pronouncing because no samples were taken on the fishermen, she says, explaining that samples should preferably be taken on newly dead fish.

Plan for the future

In order to better determine the health status of fish, SVA is developing a plan for wild fish surveillance, and it should be clear who will do what.

Erika Axelsson ends by addressing the public:

- We would like to encourage everyone to report sick and injured fish. Then we can get an idea of the spread and distribution.
