Nilsson Nachtweij (C) on the criticism: "Must change the way I express myself"

- I think the most important thing is that I have to change the way I express myself and that I need to become softer in my conversations with staff. Everything should go via, or be anchored with, the chief of staff, she says.

In the past, the municipal director, Carolina Leijonram, has resigned. According to the Moderates in Vimmerby, sick leave was due to Ingela Nilsson Nachtweijs way of managing the work. Part of the criticism was that Nilsson Nachtweij bypassed Leijonram in the bureaucratic hierarchy and instead turned directly to concerned officials with tasks.

- It has been in my eagerness to solve problems. I am a man of high drive and great commitment. I did not understand that it caused work environment problems.

Would you say that people are too sensitive?

- Absolutely not. It is very important to listen to everyone's experiences. We are each other's work environment and I am willing to take my responsibility.

As part of the change work, Ingela Nilsson Nachtweij will now resign from certain tasks in order to focus on her leadership instead.

- But now we look forward together and will solve this in the best possible way and I will hand over some responsibility to my vice in order to focus on my leadership.

How does it feel to be criticized so harshly for an open curtain?

- I'm sorry for that - that you don't choose to talk to me first before going to the media. But at the same time, I am grateful that I receive criticism so that I can improve. What I am most sorry for is if it affects my family.

How has it affected your family?

- I don't want to comment on that right now. I want to keep it private.

What reactions have you received from the surroundings?

- I've received many hugs and many text messages. I'm not going to refer to what it says in them but I'm very grateful to them.

Have you considered leaving?

- No. That's because I feel a lot of strong support in my party and when I'm out and about meeting people. And I feel a responsibility towards them. If my party would ask me to resign, it goes without saying that I do.
