“The average duration of registered unemployment as of July 1, 2019 was 4.9 months, decreasing compared with the value a year earlier (5.4 months), which allowed us to maintain low unemployment, despite an increase in the number of citizens registered during the half year as unemployed, ”the agency said in a statement.

The Ministry said that the most significant decrease in the average duration of unemployment was achieved among young people - from 5.2 to 4.4 months.

The ministry added that in the first half of 2019, 885.4 thousand citizens were registered as unemployed, which is 18.7% more than in the first half of 2018. The Ministry of Labor associates this dynamics with an increase in the size of unemployment benefits.

Earlier, experts analyzed the situation on the labor market in Russian regions.

On August 5, Oleg Shein, member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, told URA.RU that 15 million Russian citizens may be left without work in the future due to the lack of demand for their professions in the market.
