- We see the shootings and blasts that are happening in the country today, and we know that weapons and explosives come from outside. So we mean that the customs need more resources to be able to prevent the weapons from entering the country, and thus also prevent people from being murdered, says Liberal Party leader Nyamko Sabuni.

An increase of 40 million

From 2020, it is thus envisaged that the Customs Administration will receive SEK 110 million a year more in appropriations, of which 40 million are new investments. The increase in funding should be permanent.

This increase is in the coming autumn budget, and is part of the Liberals' ongoing budget negotiations with the government parties.

- It was promised 70 million, but by the Liberals choosing to prioritize the entire chain of justice, we have raised the sum to 110 million, says Nyamko Sabuni.

More staff

What should the money be used for?

- It is the Customs Administration that knows best what it needs the money for, but it is clear that it needs more staff, it has many customs places to guard. Technical equipment is probably needed to work more efficiently.

The Liberals also want to give the Customs extended powers to intervene in the suspected export of theft goods.

"I think a lot of the crimes we see in the country could be stopped and stopped if the authority got more powers and more resources to do its job," says Nyamko Sabuni.
