A mysterious disease, in some cases fatal, has affected hundreds of dogs in Norway . The cause is unknown and has caused concern among the owners, whom the authorities have asked to avoid contact between dogs.

In recent weeks about 200 dogs have suffered the same symptoms - diarrhea and / or haemorrhagic vomiting, sudden weakness -, the Norwegian veterinary institute said Monday. At least 25 dogs have died , the source has detailed.

"That does not mean that everyone suffers from the same disease because there are many that include several of those symptoms," said Asle Haukaas , spokesman for the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. So far, the autopsies of ten dogs each time revealed a serious intestinal infection.

Presence of two bacteria

In five cases the presence of two bacteria -clostridium perfringens and providencia alcalifaciens- in "abnormally high quantity" was added, he added.

The disease has been detected in and around Oslo , but some cases were also recorded in the rest of the country. Health authorities have urged owners to walk dogs on a leash and limit contacts between them.

Numerous people have chosen not to take their dogs to public places . At the moment, nothing indicates that this disease is transmitted to other animals or to the human being.
