In the United States, the US Congress resumes on Monday, September 9th. Republicans and Democrats are particularly expected on the issue of firearms after a summer marked by multiple shootings.

This will be the first time the US Congress meets after the shootings that killed more than 30 people this summer in Texas and Ohio. At the time, lawmakers had promised new measures on firearms. The US president had also suggested that stricter control of sales would be considered.

Since then, his media releases on the subject suggest that a vote will not be so simple. Not sure that Republicans and Democrats can agree on a text that would be approved by Donald Trump. It is also unlikely that the case will be discussed as soon as Congress returns. Because the agenda is already full, starting with the budget questions.

Avoid a new Shutdown

The envelopes of most administrations must be voted before October 1 to avoid a new "shutdown" . The last time, the crisis lasted 35 days. Discussions may be difficult. The Trump administration wants to include more funds for the border with Mexico. A point that Democrats deem unacceptable.

Senators should also discuss the various trade agreements. The Nafta, the agreement with Canada and Mexico, is a top priority for Republicans. In all, the Congress has 40 days before the end of the legislative year to close urgent and complicated files.
