Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Center (ETC), in cooperation with Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (Du), launched a free Wi-Fi service on all 520 public transport buses and air-conditioned bus stops in the emirate. , 120 stations.
A special contract was signed between the two parties to provide a service that will delight the users of the buses in Abu Dhabi. The Center considered this project unique in the region, in terms of providing wireless communication devices capable of using 5G technologies, and its ability to switch and adapt according to the communication service available on the buses, and in the main stations and all air-conditioned waiting umbrellas in the emirate.
The project will start in accordance with the contract signed between the two sides to provide «Wi-Fi Emirates» service on all public buses, and experience the service on board 10 buses operating within the city of Abu Dhabi, as well as in the main bus station in the city, and one of the umbrellas waiting for public transport buses, to be completed By the end of the first quarter of 2020, all 520 public buses in Abu Dhabi Emirate will be served by buses, the main bus stations in the emirate's cities and all 120 air-conditioned bus shelters.
Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Public Transport Sector at the Integrated Transport Center, said: “The signing of the contract for the provision of Wi-Fi Internet service within the public bus transport system, in partnership with du, is part of the ongoing pursuit of the Transport Center. Al Muhairi added that Wi-Fi Emirates supports Abu Dhabi's vibrant position in all its spectrums, enabling users of public transport buses to interact and communicate continuously through their online accounts and make the most of their journeys on the bus.
Ali Mohammed Al Jeaidi, Acting Technical Infrastructure Manager at the Integrated Transport Center, explained that the steps to activate the service on mobile phones by choosing to connect to @WiFi UAE from du network are: opening a special entry page for the service, and then entering the mobile phone number, then Send a text message containing a passcode, which must be entered in the box provided, and then enjoy the service according to the terms and conditions.
