Australian Formula 3 driver Alex Peroni survived a terrible accident after his car flew high in the Italian Grand Prix, a week after Formula 2 driver Antoine Obere died in an accident in Belgium.

Peroni went to the ambulance without help, and no other driver was injured in the incident.

The latest free trials were postponed before qualifying for barrier repairs after the accident.

The safety of the racing series is under scrutiny after Saturday's Spa-Francorchamps accident.

The 22-year-old died as a result of a high-speed accident on the second lap of Saturday's race, when Juan Manuel Correa collided with him after the Frenchman was already out of the track.

He went into a coma in a London hospital, suffering spinal injuries and broken legs.

Ober is the first Formula One driver to have died since Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratsenberger at Imola in 1994.
