Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe died at the age of 95, his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa, announced on his Twitter account on Friday. Robert Mugabe, ill, had been hospitalized for several months in Singapore.

" It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President Robert Mugabe, " said Emmerson Mnangagwa in a tweet.

Zimbabwe's former president, Robert Mugabe, had been hospitalized in Singapore for five months, but the illness suffered by the former head of state was unclear.

Robert Mugabe led Zimbabwe from 1980 to 2017.
