When the World Economic Forum takes place in Cape Town, many African leaders are present, but Nigeria, among others, has chosen not to participate as around 200 Nigerians have been murdered in the past year in South Africa.

SVT's reporter and former Africa correspondent Johan Ripås says that attacks on African migrants have happened many times before.

- There is such an underlying frustration. 200 truck drivers were killed last year because they are foreigners, says Johan Ripås.

Many immigrants to South Africa from other African countries "to seek happiness", as Johan Ripås describes it.

- South Africa is the most industrialized country on the continent. It's a bit like the dream of the United States, for many, he says.

But despite this, South Africa is a country "that has a financially free fall", where every third person is unemployed and millions of people feel betrayed by a corrupt government, says Johan Ripås.

- Then you should come together about the little cakes crumbs that exist, with the people you think come in and make life worse for them. Then things like this flare up.
