Sten Levander is one of Sweden's most well-known forensic psychiatrists. He has previously been notified by several health care providers and pharmacies, and the Inspectorate for Health and Care has assessed that he has abused his authority to prescribe narcotic drugs.

He himself has argued that Swedish drug policy prevents certain patients from receiving treatment.

Now the Health and Social Responsibility Committee has decided to withdraw Sten Levander's medical certificate. They are seriously considering that he has removed sensitive information from journals of fear of being considered a "bully" by criminals.

Question why he was examined

Sten Levander himself states that he is always based on science and proven experience:
"However, the question is whether Ivo (the Inspection for Health and Care) knows what is considered science and proven experience with regard to the difficult-to-treat patient group," he says in the decision.

- I print high doses and I do this with the support of science and above all proven experience, he has previously told SVT News.

He also stated that he took the liberty of questioning why he was subjected to scrutiny and that he has considered his duty of confidentiality towards the patients when considering what material would be sent to Ivo.

"Remarkable Lack"

But the Health Board's responsibility committee attaches no importance to Levander's explanations.

They point out that, by not recording the necessary information and not signing his journals, he has shown "a remarkable lack of respect for the legal rules applicable to legitimate professionals";

SVT News has sought Sten Levander for a comment.
