It was on July 22 that Chandrayaan-2 began its journey towards the moon when it was postponed from the island of Sriharikota in south-eastern India. Thousands of people gathered at the Satish Dhawan Space Center to witness the historic event.

Later on Friday night, Swedish time, when the spacecraft Chandrayaan-2 would land near the lunar south pole, the contact was broken.

- The landing went on as planned and normal functionality was observed. Then the lander stopped communicating with the ground station. The data is now being analyzed, says Isro's chairman Kailasavadivoo Sivan.

The Indian Space Agency ISRO broadcast the event on social channels, but the broadcast was then broken.
