05 September 2019Mimmo Lucano arrived in Riace after the revocation of the prohibition of residence ordered by the Court of Locri. The former mayor, who was accompanied by one of his defenders, the lawyer Andrea Daqua, was welcomed by a few dozen people, including a group of refugees left in the village. "I am happy - said Lucano - to be back in Riace. First I will go to visit my father, who is still ill. I propose to continue doing good and help those who come to Riace as a refugee".Lucano also reported that he intended to sleep tonight at his home. "I have to verify, however - he said - if the house is usable because last winter it suffered damage due to some rain infiltration. These are problems, however, that take second place compared to the joy of finally being back in my Riace , a place that I love and that represents my whole life ".
The Calabrian center had become a model of reception up to the Xenia operation, which sees Lucano accused precisely for the management of the reception of migrants. Lucano, who at first had ended up under house arrest and then removed from Riace with a residence ban, today returned to his home and re-embraced his ailing father. The former mayor, who had nominated himself as a city councilor in the last election, but was rejected at the polls, also took a walk in the village.
