After the police received an alert about a fraud attempt against an elderly couple in Sala at the beginning of the week, the investigation that went on throughout the year loosened.
In 2019, many elderly people have been affected by similarly implemented fraud.
- In most cases, the approach has been for elderly people to be called by a person who claims to call from a bank. In the next step, the person explains that the bank has sent out an official to exchange the card, then plunges it on the door of the affected person who is tricked into leaving a bank card and code, says Police Inspector Björn Sidenhjärta in a press release from the police.
The couple in Sala had received a phone call in exactly the same way, but had no idea and told some neighbors about what had happened. The police came to the scene and received tips that led them to five people in the immediate area. The people were arrested and arrested later on Tuesday.
One of the persons has been released but is still suspected. On Friday, the remaining four people are expected to be arrested.
