The former prime minister of François Hollande will speak Thursday afternoon in Avignon against the senators and deputies socialists, on the occasion of the parliamentary days of the PS. Many of the elected representatives see Bernard Cazeneuve as the incarnation of the renewal of social democracy.

"In a galaxy, you sometimes need a star, which shines a little harder than the others, to bring hope." Patrick Kanner, president of the Socialist Group in the Senate, does not hide his enthusiasm about Bernard Cazeneuve. The former Minister of the Interior and last Prime Minister of François Hollande is the guest of honor of the parliamentary days in Avignon. He will speak for nearly an hour Thursday afternoon on French domestic policy, the issue of ecological transition and the future of social democracy, struggling in the last elections.

And for Patrick Kanner, Bernard Cazeneuve is the man of the situation. "He is respected, he is expected and he knows what his responsibility is, he will say in front of socialist parliamentarians," said the chairman of the PS group in the Senate. "This political project must be shared, completed and consolidated," he says at the microphone of Europe 1.

"The left has this capacity for reinvention"

The senator is joined by the president of the Socialist group in the National Assembly Valérie Rabault, who sees in Bernard Cazeneuve a hope for the left. "The fact that Bernard Cazeneuve wants to lend himself to this exercise, I think, can reassure a certain number of socialists and can give a form of hope in the idea that, yes, the left has this capacity for reinvention. because it is absolutely necessary ", explains the member for Tarn-et-Garonne. "That a character like Bernard Cazeneuve participates, is reassuring," she says at the microphone of Europe 1.

Bernard Cazeneuve's stature as a statesman therefore seems to convince the socialist ranks. Several members of the Party already see him as a potential candidate in the presidential elections of 2022. But unanimity is never immediate in the PS. Some of the parliamentarians are waiting for the speech this afternoon to get their idea.
