The Syrian regime announced that its forces repelled an attack by drones on Hmeimim Russian airbase in Lattakia countryside (northwest of Syria) .This announcement comes in light of the unilateral truce declared by Russia and the Syrian regime after the advancement of their forces in Idlib and Hama.

The Syrian news agency said that the attack took place yesterday evening, and that the anti-air force in Latakia airspace for the drones launched towards the Russian base, without saying whether they were shot down or not.

She added that the voices heard in Latakia stem from the anti-aircraft anti-aircraft response, which the agency said "terrorists" in the area of de-escalation fired.

It was referring to armed opposition factions present in the area, which includes most of Idlib province and parts of Aleppo, Hama and Lattakia governorates.

Russia and the Syrian regime have repeatedly spoken of armed opposition targeting the airbase in the Latakia countryside with drones and missiles, and the Russians have each time declared their attacks to Syrian opposition factions foiled.

Activists say the announcement of thwarting an attack on al-Qaeda could be a pretext to resume a violent offensive that allowed Syrian and Russian regime forces to take control of strategic areas in the northern Hama countryside a few days ago, such as the city of Mork, where a Turkish checkpoint is located, and others in the southern countryside of Idlib, such as Khan. Sheikh.

In May, three weeks after a massive military campaign began in opposition-held areas of the northern countryside of Hama and the southern countryside of Idlib, Russia accused HTS of attacking Hmeimim base with drones.

Until the announcement of a unilateral ceasefire last Saturday, the air and ground campaign killed about 1,000 civilians and displaced nearly half a million people towards the Syrian-Turkish border.
