A study team to investigate whether Timor-Leste can join ASEAN = Southeast Asian Union in the future visited East Timor for the first time and began a full-scale survey from 4th.

Timor-Leste, which became independent in 2002, applied for membership in ASEAN in 2011, but there was a deep concern among member states that they could not pay the burden due to financial difficulties, and the proceeding proceeded. He was not there.

Under such circumstances, in order to investigate whether East Timor can join ASEAN in the future, a full-fledged survey team made up of representatives of member countries visited the site for the first time and started a full-scale survey on the 4th.

The study team explained the current state of politics and economy in the capital city of Dili, from officials of the Timor-Leste government. "I hope that this survey will create a way for accession," he said.

According to ASEAN officials, some countries were cautious about joining due to concerns over the financial situation of East Timor, where 40% of the people were poor. As the number of positive countries is increasing, it is attracting attention whether this survey will lead to the path to becoming a member.

The team will stay in Dili until 6th.
