American basketball players, weakened by an unstoppable series of packages, have won in extremis in overtime against Turkey 93 to 92 Tuesday in Shanghai, for their second group match at the World Cup in China.
Led by two points (81-79) to 1 / 10th of a second from the end of the match, the Americans got three free throws thanks to Jayson Tatum, on a fault of Cedi Osman. Tatum scored two of three free throws to snatch extra time.
With a one-point lead nine seconds from the end of the overtime (92-91), the Turks had four free throws to kill the game, but they all missed.
Opposite, Khris Middleton scored the two free throws that allowed the United States to pass in front (93-92) and avoid their first World Cup loss since 2006.
