Walmart, the giant supermarkets in the United States, takes a stand in the debate on guns in the United States. The boss of the sign asks the US President and Congress to act to strengthen the legislation on arms sales. He also announced on Tuesday several measures to try to stop the mass killings in the United States.

" We think we can play a role in making this country safer, " says the supermarket chain boss in his statement. The semi-automatic rifle and handgun ammunition will no longer be sold by the distribution giant, once the current stocks have expired.

As a result, the group's share in the ammunition market should increase from 20% to 6% according to the brand's estimates. Walmart will also prohibit customers from walking around with a visible weapon in its stores.

The retailer acknowledges that its new policy may be unpopular with many customers. But Walmart supermarkets were the scene of two shootings this summer: one in Texas killed 22 people , and the other in Mississippi, killed two people.

Since then, the distribution giant has been under pressure from its employees and gun organizations. A petition demanding that Walmart limit arms sales has collected 140,000 signatures. The supermarket chain is not a pioneer in this area: after the Parkland massacre last year, Dick Sporting Goods, another US brand, decided to restrict its arms sales.
