Boris Johnson wants the UK to leave the EU on 31 October. But the way there is not very easy. During Thursday afternoon, Tory member Philip Lee chose to step down from the party. Johnson is no longer in the majority for tonight's vote.

SVT's European correspondent Christoffer Wendick says the drop-off makes the evening's vote even more exciting.

What does Boris Johnson want to do?

- He wants to stop Parliament from taking control of the agenda, which prohibits him from leaving the EU without an agreement. If Parliament answers yes to this question tonight, they can tomorrow put forward the proposal, which has already circulated among opposition parties who want to vote against the government, and forbid the UK leaving without a deal, says Christoffer Wendick.

Wendick on new elections

If the opposition wins tonight's vote, it has been previously reported that Johnson is expected to be opposed to proposing new elections.

- It will be a new election, but whether it will be before October 31 or after, we can not say that right now. It requires a qualified majority in Parliament.
