The reason is that elevated values of so-called coliform bacteria have been found in the water, writes Torsås municipality in a press release.

- Coliform bacteria are a group of bacteria that occur naturally in soil and indicate primarily that surface water affects the municipal drinking water. Coliform bacteria generally do not pose any danger, but do indicate some type of contamination and therefore we are taking precautions, says Gustaf Nilsson, food and environmental inspector at Torsås municipality.

Samples are now taken continuously to find a source of possible contamination. Meanwhile, residents of the municipality are urged not to use water for drinking or cooking without first boiling it. Particularly sensitive groups, such as children and the elderly, should watch out for water.

The samples show no presence of E. coli or Clostridium bacteria in the water.
