The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has demanded 25 years in prison against the man who stabbed two American tourists at Amsterdam Central on 31 August 2018. The man himself stated that he wanted to stand up for his religion by killing "cruel and dishonest people" who would support Geert Wilders.
The OM sees evidence that the attempted murder had a terrorist purpose, and therefore wants Jawed S. to receive a high sentence. According to the judiciary, he is fully accountable.
S. said it was actually the intention to kill the Dutch. Twenty-year-old Afghan is angry about the PVV leader's launch of a cartoon competition and that the Dutch government offered him the opportunity to do so.
S. had not noticed that he stabbed tourists with suitcases.
Agents intervened very quickly
S., who bought the knife a day before the attack, walked around the station for 45 minutes before he struck.
Agents had already noticed him because he was behaving abnormally. The anonymous thieves, among others, told Nieuwsuur and AT5 that the attack ended after nine seconds because they intervened very quickly at the same time with three people. S., who stated that he wanted to stab the policemen, was shot when he approached them.

No clear picture about psyche suspect
Because the man did not cooperate in research into his mental state, experts were unable to get a clear picture of his psyche.
One of his victims has suffered a paraplegia and is therefore bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The other man has suffered nerve injury in his arm. In total, the compensation paid by the parties amounts to millions.
If compensation is awarded, the Dutch State can advance this and subsequently recover it from S.
