On Monday, the employees at the Ersmark factory were informed of the plans. 150 employees will be notified of termination.

The production unit has rubber production and manufactures mill feed and pump linings for the mining industry. But Metso has similar factories in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and the company believes that the decision was made after looking at manufacturing capacity throughout the region.

- We have looked at how we can utilize maximum manufacturing methods but also optimize sourcing opportunities and logistics. We have many manufacturing units in Sweden, while many of our customers are outside this region, says Ulf Kendrup.

The geographical location has influenced the decision

He believes that the geographical location of the factory in Ersmark influenced the decision. But also the factory's production capacity.

- We want to secure our delivery capacity, quality and competitiveness in a global market where our products are sold, says Ulf Kendrup.

Now the company has called for negotiations with the union. The CEO cannot answer when the factory may be closed.

- It is a long process before everything is said in a negotiation. We know the time when negotiations are ready. Of course, this is an extremely tough message for Ersmark employees, says Ulf Kendrup.

In total, there are just over 200 employees at the factory in Ersmark, 50 of whom are not affected by the message because they work in other areas. Metso also plans to restructure its operations in Trelleborg, but no employee notification is planned there.
